Movement no. 7: To Appear
Transformaciones (2009) is a project that consists of a series of crafted devotional objects, or responsive video-shrines, for a contemporary practice in a timeless world. In the project, media art, traditional crafts and cultural heritage are merged into new art works, as the mutual exchange of knowledge creates new contexts.
The project manifests itself through a series of niches which contain responsive, short videos. The motion portrait of St. Christopher was the first section of this series and was followed by The Lady of Guadalupe’s appearance for Juan Diego on the hills of Tepeyac.
The motif appears while the spectator closes in, and it disappears when the viewer goes away. The content of the videos are the product of social processes, namely aesthetic preparations and ritual-theatrical transformations; in itself the ground of the origin of drama.
